Winter Worn Hair

There’s a lot about winter we love – glitzy holiday parties, fuzzy earmuffs, peppermint-flavored everything – but the cold weather months can definitely wreak havoc on your hair.  Forget the icy, harsh air outside. How about the ‘do-drying artificial heat constantly pumping inside? Caught between both extremes, your tresses can end up moisture-starved, brittle, and full of split ends. Ready to move to Miami yet?

You can’t do anything about the dry, cold air issues – but you can change the way you take care of your hair in the winter. Dry, dehydrated hair is prone to fraying, and if you don’t care for your ends, the split ends will travel all the way up your strands. Also, turn down the heat! Use a lower setting on your curling iron or blowdryer, or skip them altogether (at least half of the week). The heat from these tools creates micro-cracks in your cuticle, contributing to breakage.

Wool and cotton winter hats only exacerbate a static-y situation. Either opt for earmuffs, or put your hair in a loose braid before slipping on your hat. When you get to work, unbraid your hair. You might even get some cute, loose waves out of it!

A surefire cold weather hair cure is Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect Shampoo, Conditioner, and Overnight Miracle Repair Serum – this nighttime leave-in will target the most damaged areas of your hair, leaving it soft, hydrated, and protected against future damage.
